In 2020, I, Daniel Sauter, took over the reed-making business "Untch - Reeds for Oboes" from Michael Untch, who, after over 40 years and thousands of sold reeds, found a successor in me. Through years of collaboration, Michael Untch taught me the intricacies of reed-making, and we remain in close contact.
Since childhood, I have played the oboe in numerous orchestras and began crafting reeds for personal use early on. Over time, I deepened my knowledge independently and through reed-making courses. In 2019, I established a closer partnership with Michael Untch and benefited greatly from his decades of experience in producing professional oboe reeds.
The foundation of reed-making is high-quality wood. I was fortunate to acquire stocks of wood that have been carefully stored for at least 10 years. Crafting each reed by hand allows me to maintain complete control over the process and fulfill almost all custom requests with pleasure.
